ARTIST STATEMENT
When I am obsessed with something, I tend to reflect that obsession at every turn. Be it memory, the perversity, isolation and complexity of the human condition, or whatever the concept or theme that’s on my mind at that particular time, I try to be provocative and playful and create a visually impacting work using oil on canvas, moving the paint like a dream/nightmare until I’m satisfied with the effect of the images coming through. I think people have a capacity now to accept strange and I hope some of my work holds up to that.
I want to disorientate the viewer and make the unfamiliar familiar and vice versa. I think, from all my years visiting galleries and art shows, that one is bombarded by so many images, that it’s hard for the artist today to create some thought-provoking piece that the viewer will come away with and stick in their mind. Creating paintings that have an impact that people will remember long after seeing – this is my objective and aim.
